Fifteen years of teaching children to think in numbers

It started with one teacher and nine children

The first class had nine children, a borrowed room above a bookshop, and a set of wooden abacuses bought from a supplier in Chennai. The teacher was a school maths teacher who had watched too many capable children decide, by the age of eight, that they were bad at numbers.

In 2014 we rewrote the curriculum into the ten levels it still uses. In 2018 schools began asking us to run the programme inside their timetables. In 2022 we put the practice sheets online so children could keep their streak going between classes — and so parents could see the work without having to ask.
